Camping tent guide

The term camping tent has evolved over the years. There are actually no differences to a conventional tent. A camping tent is a normal tent intended for people to stay overnight, no matter where you want to camp. However, there are a few things to consider when buying a camping tent. We tell you everything you need to know here.

What size is the right?

Before buying a camping tent, you should ask yourself how many people it should accommodate. If you are only traveling alone, a small 1-2 person tent is sufficient. But if you are traveling with friends or children, grab a larger tent right away. If you take the tent with you on trips or on a bike tour, it should be as small as possible.

Waterproof tent

A tent should always be waterproof, but this is not always the case. Especially with very cheap models, moisture quickly gets inside. To be sure that the tent is waterproof, pay attention to the water column when buying it. From a water column of 1,300 mm one speaks of waterproof. However, many models have a higher water column of approx. 3,000 mm. A water column of z. B. 3,000 mm means that the material can withstand a water pressure of 3 meters.

Which material to choose for the camping tent?

There are two materials that are mainly used in tents, polyester and nylon. Polyester is a stable fabric and offers UV protection and does not let moisture through. Most quality tents are made of polyester. A nylon tent, on the other hand, is less tear-resistant and UV-resistant, but lighter and cheaper.

Different types of tents

In addition to a steep wall tent, there are also trekking tents, tunnel tents, inflatable tents and pop-up tents. All have their advantages and disadvantages. The pop-up tent is particularly practical because it can be set up in just a few minutes. The steep wall tent offers a great height, so that you can also stand in it. Tunnel tents, on the other hand, are very small, but also offer a very small pack size. The classic trekking tent, also known as a camping tent, is usually small and light and therefore suitable for hiking trips.

Waterproofing camping tent

Every tent, even if it is new, should be waterproofed. As a result, the water rolls off better and no moisture gets inside. In addition, the reproofing protects the material. It is sufficient if you waterproof the tent once a year. Buy inexpensive waterproofing sprays here.
