Choosing an action camera used to be easy as there was only GoPro. These are still some of the best action cameras out there, but we’ve finally found some worthy competitors. In this comparison, we present the currently most recommended action cameras.

We are aware that there are many more recommended action cameras. However, we have consciously chosen only the best, with which you will also receive excellent quality.
GoPro Hero 10 Black
The Hero 10 Black is currently the most popular and best action camera. It builds on the foundation of its predecessors with a new processor that speeds up capture times, squeezing more resolution out of the 23.6-megapixel sensor. There is also an improved image stabilization which can now really be described as perfect.
The Hero 10 Black improves the video thanks to the new HyperSmooth 4 Videos that can be recorded in 5K with 30 frames. At 5.3K, not only do you get gimbal-like smoothness, you still have room to crop and export to 4K.
DJI Action 2
DJI’s new Action 2 is a significant departure from DJI’s first action camera. It has become much smaller, which many welcome. The camera is modular, which is the biggest novelty. The difference is that DJI’s camera doesn’t need to have any additional modules – you can just shoot with the tiny lens and screen on one part of the combo.
Unfortunately, you can not only buy this part. You must choose either the battery pack combination or the dual screen combination. The only catch is the limited storage space (32 gigabytes) and the limited battery (about 15-20 minutes with 4K recordings). Another downside to consider is that it is only individually waterproof. In combo form, this camera is not waterproof.
Insta360 OneRS
Are you looking for an action camera and a 360 degree camera?. Insta360’s One RS is currently the only one that brings interchangeable lenses to the action camera.
There are three lenses or “mods”: a 4K mod that produces a great 4K image, a dual-lens 360-degree camera, and a wide-angle Leica lens paired with a 1-inch sensor that captures 5K video can. The best value is in the pairing of the 4K mod with the 360 mod. The Leica 1 inch mod may be expensive to buy, but it delivers the best video quality, even surpassing the GoPro Hero 10 Black image.
GoPro Hero 9 Black
Our previous top recommendation, the GoPro Hero 9 is no longer the latest model, but it is still an excellent action camera. We list them here for the reason that they have now fallen significantly in price and are therefore an inexpensive recommendation.
If you don’t need the stabilized 5.3K video, higher resolution JPG stills, or faster frame rates, the Hero 9 is a better value. It still has great stabilization, shoots 5.3K video (without stabilization), captures 20MP stills, and can extract 14.7MP images from 5K video.
