The best airlines in the world
The coronavirus pandemic has turned air travel around the world upside down, from half-empty planes and canceled flights to rapid Covid-19 testing and mask requirements.
But at least one thing hasn’t changed: Qatar Airways is once again the “best airline in the world,” according to aviation research firm Skytrax. Qatar Airways also topped Skytrax’s global airline rankings in 2019 – the company topped its annual ranking in 2020 – making the Doha-based airline a repeat champion and a six-time winner over the past decade.
This year’s ranking is based on more than 13 million customer survey responses. More than 356 airlines were tested in areas such as online booking and check-in processes, flight crew friendliness, seating comfort and the quality of inflight meals and entertainment. According to Skytrax, the survey ran from September 2019 to July 2021.
Delta Air Lines won the title of Best North American Airline, while Japan Airlines was ranked as the World’s Best Economy Class. The survey also recognized Malaysian AirAsia as the world’s best low-cost airline.

Qatar Airways received particularly high marks from business travelers, beating all other airlines in business-class-related categories such as Best Seat, Best Airline Lounge and Best Inflight Catering. Travelers ranked the airline third behind Emirates and Singapore Airlines for inflight entertainment and fourth for cabin cleanliness.
Book cheap flights with the best airlines
You usually pay a higher price for a premium airline than, for example, for a low-cost airline. But it doesn’t always have to be much more expensive. Certainly, if you compare the prices for a Ryanair flight and one with Lufthansa, you will happily pay twice as much with Lufthansa. In return, you get better service and more legroom.
Cheap flights can also be booked with premium airlines. The flight search engine plays one of the most important roles. Do not go directly to the airline’s website, but use a flight comparison portal. With these you almost always get the better price. Personally, we find the flight search site Travfindo very good. Compared to other flight search engines, the slightly better price could usually be achieved there. When booking a flight, however, nothing helps except to compare and play through all the options.
