Finding a suitable humidor is not that easy. Which criteria, apart from the optics, should a humidor also meet? In order to safely store tobacco treasures, humidors should meet a number of requirements.
Requirements for a cigar humidor:
- Tightness: Important to reliably keep the air humidity in the humidor over a long period of time.
- Appearance: There’s no arguing about taste.
- Volume: The more free volume a humidor has inside, the better and more stable the climate for the cigars.
- Inserts & Drawers: Dividers, inserts and drawers keep things tidy. Some models come with a very good equipment in terms of insoles.
- Hinges: A humidor is opened regularly. It goes without saying that the hinges must be of high quality.
- Hygrometer: A hygrometer can be used to measure the humidity inside. Although we almost always recommend retrofit hygrometers.
- Humidifier System: Boveda Packs are our favorite humidifiers. Most of the time, however, crystal humidifiers are delivered.
- Lining: Spanish cedar is ideal for storing cigars. The inner lining, the so-called veneer, is the be-all and end-all of a humidor. This should be as neutral as possible and support the climatic requirements of a humidor.
