Saving electricity costs tips

The best tips for saving electricity

Have you just received a message from your electricity supplier about a price adjustment? If so, you are like millions of others in Germany. As you may have noticed, electricity prices almost doubled from 2021 to 2022. Once 21-28 cents per kilowatt hour was normal, you can now get the cheapest provider for 40 cents/Kwh. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that you have to worry about such a huge price change. We have attached a few tips on how you can reduce electricity costs.

Save electricity and reduce electricity costs

There is no one way to save electricity. Rather, it is a series of small things that you must follow. While many may sound like peanuts for the first time, it all adds up. If you follow all of our tips, you can save up to several hundred euros in electricity costs over the course of a year.

Change electricity supplier

All electricity providers are currently expensive, but you can certainly find a cheaper one. Compare the different providers and find the best deal. With a good electricity price you save the most.

Replace old electronic devices

If you have an old refrigerator or freezer, you should consider buying a new one. Every old appliance uses more electricity than the new models, but it’s extreme when it comes to refrigerators. Take a look at the power consumption of your old refrigerator and calculate how much cheaper a new device will be or when it will pay for itself.

>>> Here you will find many energy-saving refrigerators.

Use natural light

A single south-facing window can illuminate 20 to 100 times its area. Switching off a 60-watt light bulb for four hours a day means a good saving of around 4 euros a year.

Turn off unnecessary lights

Two 100-watt light bulbs left off two extra hours a day could save you around $13 over the course of a year. It’s best to switch to LED light bulbs right away.

LED lightbulbs

LED light bulbs use only a fraction of the energy of a conventional light bulb. A 7 watt LED light bulb is usually equivalent to a 100 watt light bulb. The savings are enormous.

Take shorter showers

Electricity is also required for showering. Hot water is expensive. If two people in your house each shave a minute off their shower time, you could save about $25 over the course of a year.

Turn off the water

Turn off the water when you shave, wash your hands, and brush your teeth. So reduce your hot water consumption by 5%.

Ditch the desktop computer

If you still use an old desktop PC, recycle it and switch to a laptop. This consumes much less than a desktop PC. Electricity costs will be significantly reduced.

Unplug unused electronics

Standby power can account for 10% of the average household’s annual electricity consumption. Unplug unused electronics or make sure the device is “really” off and not on standby.

Stromkosten reduzieren

Replace old TVs

Sell, recycle or donate your old TV. Televisions no longer cost a fortune, which is why buying a new one can be worthwhile. When buying a TV, however, pay attention to the energy consumption and check the values with your current one.

Use table lamps

Turn off overhead lights and use table lamps, power rails, and under-cabinet lights in work, hobby, and kitchen areas. The light from this is sufficient and is significantly more energy-efficient than always using the large ceiling light.
