With BBQ season fast approaching, now is the best time to prep and clean up your gear. Before you start grilling, you must first thoroughly clean the entire grill. Surely there are still some leftovers from last summer. Even if you wiped down the grill before wintering, it’s important to start each new season with a thorough cleaning.
Grill cleaning tips
Why is grill cleaning so important? The same grilling practices that create those Instagram-perfect, flavorful char marks on your burgers and steaks also create carbon build-up on virtually every surface of your grill, including the grates, hood, firebox interior, and aroma wands and burner tubes (on gas grills) . These must be removed as they neither taste delicious nor are they healthy. In addition, your grill will last you a long time if you take care of it and maintain it.
First, it is best to use a grill grate cleaner such as Weber Grill Cleaner. Spray it on and let it soak in. Then spray with the high-pressure cleaner and the grill is almost completely cleaned. Nevertheless, there are some other small miracle cures that can help with grill cleaning.
After using your grill all day, cover the grill with newspaper soaked in water and close the lid once it has started to cool. Leave it closed for 30 minutes to steam clean. If your grill is heavily soiled, this method will not do much, but it does for light soiling.
Clean the grillage in the dishwasher
Unless your grill is huge, the griddle should fit easily in the dishwasher. Set it to a pot wash cycle and they should come out like new. Don’t put the grillage in the dishwasher too dirty to clog your drain.
Baking soda and baking soda is a perfect household remedy
Sprinkle baking soda on the grill and dissolve some in water. Scrub with a sponge and scourer until all the baking soda is gone and the grill is shiny.
If you clean the grill regularly, preferably after every barbecue evening, you will never have to clean too much. It is worth investing a few minutes in cleaning the next day.
